Ralph Waldo Emerson Collection

Once described as the mystic of common sense, Ralph Waldo Emerson was a leading figure in the Transcendentalist movement which included Thoreau, Hawthorne and Alcott. Suggesting an American Wordsworth, but speaking with a distinctive voice, his best poetry combines intensity of religious feeling with close observation of the New England landscape. Together with all his well-known poems, this volume collects other work from the volumes published in Emerson’s lifetime and from the extensive manuscripts he left at his death.
